## What is MFA?

Setting up Multifactor authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your Microsoft 365 account sign-in. For example, you first enter your password, and, when prompted, you also type a dynamically generated verification code provided by an authenticator app or sent to your phone.

* Install **Microsoft Authenticator** from your App Store or Play Store.
* Open Microsoft Authenticator, skip all initial notices, and click **Add Account.**
* Choose **Work or School Account.**
* Select **Sign In.**
* Your phone will prompt for a Microsoft login. Use your SETU credentials (<studentid@setu.ie>) and Password.
* Select **Open Browser.**
* Input your SETU username and password again
* On the “Start By Getting The App” screen, click “**Next**”.
* On the “Set Up Your Account In The App” screen, click “**Pair your account to the app by clicking this Link**” (see below), and click “**Next**”.

* Wait for activation to complete and click “**Finish**”*.*

## What happens now?

When you try to access your mail, OneDrive, Core, etc., from outside of the college network, you will get prompted to enter MFA details or approve them from the authentication app. You will have the option to remember these MFA details for 30 days.

## Instructions for setting up your Laptop and Phone

&#x20;**Step 1: On your Phone:**

* Install **Microsoft Authenticator** from your App Store or Play Store.
* Open Microsoft Authenticator, skip all initial notices, and click **Add Account.**
* Choose **Work or School Account.**
* Select **Scan a QR code** (grant permissions to access the camera if necessary).

**Step 2: On you PC/Laptop:**

* Browse and login (using your usual SETU credentials <studentid@setu.ie>) to: <https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info.>
* On the **Start by getting the app** screen, click **Next.**
* On the **Set up your account** screen, click **Next.**
* You will be shown a QR code.

**Step 3: On your Phone**

* Position the camera on the phone over the QR code on the monitor. (Alternatively, you can manually enter code and URL).
* Once the QR code capture was successful, Click “**Finish**” and the phone will add the SETU MFA account to the Authenticator App.

**Step 4: On your PC/Laptop**

* Click “**Next**”.

**Step 5: On your Phone**

* Please put in the 2 digit code displayed on your PC/Laptop, into your phone and then click **“Yes”**.

**Step 6: On your PC/Laptop**

* Your Application connection should be verified when you see the screen as per image 4.
* Click **"Next"**.

* Once finished, you should see a **Success** screen as per image 5.
* Click **“Done”**.

## What happens now?

<summary>How To Install Microsoft 365 For SETU Students &#x26; Staff</summary>

**Learn how to successfully download and install the Microsoft 365 suite using your SETU student account credentials. This guide walks you through the entire authentication and installation process to ensure you have full access to essential applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.**

1. Access [www.setu.ie](http://www.setu.ie/) as normal.  Click on the magnifying glass in the top right-hand corner of the screen.&#x20;

2. Click in the **Search** box which appears on the screen and type in **Office 365** and press **Return**.&#x20;

   Click on the **Microsoft Office for Staff & Students – SETU** link.&#x20;

3. On the screen which appears, click on the **Install Office 365** button.

4. Login with your **@setu.ie** username and **password**.

4. On the screen which appears, click on the arrow next to the **Apps** entry down in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen (highlighted in yellow).  A menu will appear.

&#x20;     Click **More apps** from the drop-down menu.&#x20;

6. In the top right hand corner of the screen, click on **Install apps** and from the drop-down menu which appears, click on **Microsoft 365 apps Install Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and more**.

7. On the next page, click **Install Office**.

8. The software will start to download, and a message will appear in the top right hand corner to show this happening.  When it has finished downloading, open up the **download folder** as below by clicking on the folder icon.

9. Double click on **OfficeSetup** to start the installation.

10. A message will appear on the screen at the start of the installation. Depending on how fast your network and your computer are, the installation may take a few minutes.

11. When finished, a message will appear on the screen telling you that the installation is completed.

12. When you open any of the Office applications for the first time, you will be asked to sign in.  Please do so with your setu.ie username and password to get the full use of out of Office 365.  &#x20;

13. Microsoft 365 is now ready for use.

<summary>How to download and install MS Project for STEM Students &#x26; Staff</summary>

**This guide is ONLY for SETU accounts associated with STEM Students/Staff, do NOT use this guide if you're not a STEM student/staff currently attending SETU.**

MS Project is available to all STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) students while they are students in SETU. For it to work correctly, if you have MS Office on your machine, make sure that it is MS Office 365 or MS Office 2021.

1. You will need a browser to do this so open Chrome or Edge – for this demonstration, we are using Chrome. Click on the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the browser (see image below)

2. Click on **New Incognito window**. By using an incognito window, you will be forced to login to an account – in this case, we will want you to login with your **@setu.ie** account.

3. In the window that appears, click in the address bar and type in **azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools** or copy and paste it from this document. Press return to bring up the **Sign in** screen.

4. Enter your **<studentnumber@setu.ie>/staff.<name@setu.ie>** username by clicking on the **Email, phone or Skype** line – e.g. **<20034567@setu.ie>** - and click on **Next**.

5. Click on **Password** and enter your **@setu.ie** password, then click **Sign in**. If a pop up asks you to stay signed in press **No**.

6. You will be asked to complete an Academic Verification form, fill out each space and for "**School Name**" make sure to choose "**South East Technological University (Waterford City, Co. Waterford)**" OR "**South East Technological University (Carlow, Co. Carlow)**. After filling out this form, at the bottom of the page press "**Verify academic status**".

7. After that you will have to fill out details for "**Your Profile**" including phone number, email, address, etc. Once filled out press "**Sign up**" at the bottom.

<mark style="color:$danger;">**NOTE**</mark><mark style="color:$danger;">: when you press Sign up, you will be presented with MFA before you can proceed any further. MFA stands for Multi Factor Authentication, a necessary security measure to protect your account. You should have setup your MFA to access Moodle by now ,(If not you can find the guide to setting up MFA in How to Guides), this is the same one which you will need here.</mark>

8. Again, if the option appears choose **No** when asked if you want to stay signed in.

9. The Azure dashboard for your account will appear.  At the bottom of the screen, you will see a list of **Free software** to which you are entitled as a **STEM** student/staff.  Click on **Explore all** to open the next screen:&#x20;

10. Click in the **Search box** and type in **Project**.&#x20;

11. Two entries will appear (as of September 2025). Click on **Project Professional 2021 - DVD** to see more information on this software.

12. Before you download, click on **View key** (right-hand side of the screen).

13. Click on the **two pages** symbol which appears next to the key – this will copy the key to the clipboard on your machine – <mark style="color:$danger;">**you will need this later**</mark>. When you click on the **two pages** symbol, you will see the word **copied** appear on the screen. Do not do anything else until you see that word appear on your screen.

14. &#x20;Click **Download** to start.

15. You may be asked if you want to save the download – click on **Save** if it appears on the screen.

16. Up in the top right-hand corner of the screen, you will see the download in progress. This may take some time depending on the speed of your Internet. In my case, at home, it took 6 minutes to download.

17. Click on the download symbol up in the top right-hand corner of the screen when the download has finished.

18. Click **Full download history** to see the download just done.

19. Double-click **en\_project\_professional\_2021\_x86\_x64\_dvd\_15a5fc18.iso** to open it up – this is your Project install program.

20. Click Open when it appears on the screen. This will extract your install to your hard disk and open it up.

21. Double-click on **Setup** to start the install. This may take some time.

22. A screen will appear telling you to stay online while your app downloads.

23. When the install is finished, click on **Close**.

24. Close your browser and find Project under your list of software on your machine.

25. Open Project – the first time of running, you will need to put in a product key. Click in the box **Enter an Office Product key**:

26. Press the **Ctrl + V** simultaneously on your keyboard to enter the code which you copied to your clipboard earlier on.

27. Click **Activate Office**.

28. If you want to see if your Project has been activated, click on **Account** down in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

29. Look to the left of the screen which appears, and you will see that it says Product activated.
