# Introduction and Welcome

Welcome to the SETU Waterford computer services website page!

The purpose of this page is to give you a helping hand when it comes to navigating your accounts, the software you are entitled to while you are a student in SETU and a few useful pointers such as the importance of backups, etc, etc. Hopefully, this page will be of some help to you as you start your studies in SETU Waterford.

## **Where are we located?**

**Walton Building** – Cork Road Campus

* Our central base is on the Cork Road in the Walton Building which is highlighted in red on the map below. We are on the bottom floor so when you come into the building just take a right and keep going to the very end until you see our sign.

(Insert google map)

**College Street Campus**

* We also have a base in College Street but even though we don’t have technical staff in all buildings we do support all areas of SETU Waterford, be it the Nursing building or Carriganore or the T\&L buildings.

## **What are our opening hours?**

We are open to staff and students alike, Monday to Friday.

Currently our opening times are as follows:

**Monday - Friday**

* Morning: 10:00am to 12:00pm
* Afternoon: 2:30pm to 4:30pm

**Monday - Thursday**

* **Limited** night time service from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. (**Email ONLY**)

Support is provided to students via the physical help desk and via email.

Small queries are dealt there and then at the physical help desk – for example, changing of a computer password for which you must present your SETU Waterford card.

Bigger queries however may require us to log a ticket for you e.g. requests to access our software download Team (there is a process which must be gone through for this). The ticket is put onto a list and picked up by a member of the technical staff in the office who will contact you when they are available to assist you with your query.

{% hint style="info" %}
We don’t provide cover at the weekends or on public holidays but do endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible and within 24 hours at the most, during a normal working week. On the odd occasion, we may have to close the physical help desk to facilitate training, etc, so it’s always best to email first if you plan on dropping over to us.
{% endhint %}

## **What support and services do we provide?**

We provide support for students and staff within the academic environment.

We maintain:

* The vast majority of SETU Waterford PCs and laptops,
* The network for the entire campus (including Wi-Fi),
* All the SETU student and staff accounts,
* All staff printers,
* System backups

We are also currently working on fully merging our IT systems with our Carlow systems which is a massive undertaking so it’s a very busy and exciting time for us all as you can well imagine.

**WI-FI Assistance**

* We provide Wi-Fi assistance for your personal machines should you have problems logging onto the Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi isn’t everywhere within SETU Waterford – it is mainly based in areas where students congregate e.g. library, public areas e.g. atriums. The expansion of the Wi-fi is a work in progress and every year we do add to this network.

**MFA Assistance**

* Assistance with MFA (multifactor authentication) is also something which we provide. It’s designed to keep your account and the contents of your account safe and secure and was introduced only in the last 12 months for students.

**Password Self Service Reset Programme**

* The Password Self Service Reset Programme is something which we **STRONGLY** encourage you all to sign up for as soon as your accounts are activated. More about this can be found in [Frequently Asked Questions](/computer-services-waterford/frequently-asked-questions.md#can-i-change-my-setu-password-from-home).
